Free Falling? Ask For A Treatment Plan!

In 2020 my life burned to the ground. I left my corporate career with no intention to return, I left the city and I left any sense of security I had in order to heal myself and my life. I was free falling with no plan other than to listen to my souls guidance. I’d had fatigue for about a decade but it was intensifying fast and I was also advised that I needed a brain surgery.

I had undergone brain surgery when I was 14 which was a deeply traumatic experience for me and some of these symptoms were intensifying again. Over Christmas of 2019 I ended up in hospital as I couldn’t sit up without an intense pressure in my head which crippled me with panic on top of the physical stress.

Determined to heal myself naturally, I set out to build the right support team (and lifestyle) to allow this to occur.

The Financial Stress That Comes With Healing From Chronic Illness

The financial journey to healing chronic illness is not an easy one. I made many sacrifices in order to support myself and at the same time invest in quality healing support. It was highly stressful but, when you don’t have your health there is nothing else that seems important.

About a year down the track when I finally realised that I needed to ask for a treatment plan from a practitioner before committing to working with them medium to long term.

I had chosen some practitioners who came highly recommended but when I asked how we were tracking ro how many sessions I would need they would tell me that healing was a process and I just needed to keep coming back (indefinitely). Whilst this was absolutely not financially sustainable for me, the desperation almost always puts you in a vulnerable position!

A Seasoned Therapist Can Offer You A Plan

What I proceeded to learn is that a seasoned therapist of any kind will gladly discuss and implement a treatment plan with you. Whilst it’s true that healing has many layers and is an always evolving process, your therapist should be able to deliver you a framework and timeline as to how you can tackle an issue over the medium term at least.

For example, in my kinesiology clinic I can work with someone on a chronic illness tackling it from multiple directions over 3 - 5 sessions. The first 2 sessions are usually critical to bring the person out of a deep stress response and to relieve common emotions like panic. The following 3 sessions could then more effectively target the presenting issue more directly.

And while the issue may not be completely healed after 5 sessions, we can set small goals and reassess effectiveness with a clear plan like this.

Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day

The other side of the coin is that if you want to achieve true deep healing in your life, you need to allow your chosen support team to build treatment plans for you. The manifestations (symptoms) you are experiencing have built up over many years (decades) of stress response and therefore need time to unravel.

So by all means carefully research and select the most aligned healing team for you, my suggestion would be that when you find them commit to them. Work on your issues in a sustainable way to give yourself the best chance!

As they say, we teach what we most need to learn and this was another hard earned lesson I hope can help others who are navigating crises and chronic disease!
